Easy Cubano Sandwiches

Cubano sandwiches are great… but who has roast pork loin and Cuban bread lying around? You can still capture alot of what makes these sandwiches great if you just leave those ingredients out and use some more common ones. Pressing this sandwich is part of what makes it great. We have a panini press, but a George Forman grill can be a good stand in. However if you are not lazy like me, check out this recipe. It looks like the real deal.

Easy Cubano (Faux-bano)

Ingredients

  • Ideally Cuban bread, if not go for French bread, but not a baggette. I used a round country loaf. You want something that doesn’t have too tough a crust
  • Ham
  • Swiss, preferably baby swiss
  • Dill pickle sliced length wise, like Stackers
  • Yellow mustard, think French’s

Directions

  1. Heat up your press or pan.
  2. Get your bread ready. Place the pickles, then ham, then cheese, and then spread mustard on the top slice.
  3. Spray Pam or oil the press or pan. If you are using a press, place sandwich in it. You want it to be at a medium temperature, so the bread turns golden just as the cheese starts to melt, 5 – 6 minutes. If you are using a pan, place the sandwich in the pan and press down with a bacon press or another pan. Turn the sandwich over after 2 – 3 minutes, ones the bottom slice of bread begins to toast. The sandwich will be down when the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
