Dark and Stormies

It was a Dark and Stormy night…and I woke up hungover.

Dark and Stormies are a great drink for when it is hot and sweaty out and if you want to feel a little better than other people by ordering a drink that originated in Bermuda, a place that you have never been to.

They are made with Goslings Black Rum, Ginger beer from Bermuda (either Bundaberg or Barritts) and a wedge of lime, all over ice. I have no idea where to find Bundaberg, but I have seen Barritts at Trader Joes.

I committed 2 Stormy sins in making making mine. First, I used Jamaican ginger beer–Goya. The Jamaican variety has pepper in it, giving the drink a spicy edge. I also used lemon instead of lime. Whatever, the British don’t know everything. Look at what happened to their Empire. I actually like the Jamaican ginger beer better. It cut through the sweetness of the rum better and the additional acidity from the lemon worked well. I will call this version Rasta Stormies. That is pretty bad, forget that last sentence.
