Lazy Northern Sausage & Grits

What I am about to present here will likely shock and shame any true Southerner. Whatever! I am a Masshole and freely butcher Southern classics as I please. My version of sausage and grits is quick and tasty and only requires one pan.

Lazy Northern Sausage & Grits

Note:

Making this dish means officially sacrificing any claims you have to being a “foodie.” Don’t worry, you won’t miss it.

Ingredients:

  • 2 un-cooked, non-spicy sausages
  • 1 small yellow onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 packets of instant grits, with artificial butter flavor (yum!)

Directions:

  1. Place the sausages in a non-stick skillet and add about a 1/4 inch of water. Cover the pan.
  2. Bring the water to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook for roughly 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the sausages and drain the water. Let the sausages sit for a sec to dry off.
  4. Saute the onions with a bit of butter until they start to turn translucent.
  5. Slice the sausage in half length wise and then cut into pieces.
  6. Brown the sausage with the onions for about 5 minutes or so.
  7. Pour the instant grits (with artificial butter flavor) into the pan and add the appropriate amount of water.
  8. Stir until the grits set and then serve.
  9. Start talking with a fake Southern accent.

  1. I could not resist commenting. I am against instant grits. I still really like your blog :-) I am taking a personal challenge to make the same dish using one pan and REAL grits :-) .

  2. I had no idea that Instant Grits With Artificial Butter Flavor was a commercially available food product. They sell that over to the WalMartses?
