Lee - trust me on this (have I ever lied to you before??) - you can buy a gallon of the most expensive bottled/spring water on Planet Earth and use it to brew your "mediocre" Ethiopian coffee. Guess what - it won't make a jot of difference. Water does not make coffee, in spite of what the bs dilettantes might say. Accept the fact that Ethiopian coffee is not to your liking and move on.(PS: Take a look at Costa Rican and Guatamalen coffees).

Gotta love the Shuki guy. Say something he doesn't like and - "OMG", you're a complete asshole. Whatever happened to reasoned discourse and the gracious acknowledgement that people's opinions - and, indeed, tastes - all differ to some extent? Imagine a world where everybody held the identical opinion - George Orwell lives...

PS:Shuki - Orwell was an English author who wrote a book called "1984". You wouldn't understand it...

Such anger! Such contumelious vituperation! Such arrogant my-way-is the-only way expertise. Geez, people - it's only food/drink. Lighten up, unpucker your ringpieces & just enjoy the whole cooking/eating/drinking/creating process. That aside - and leaving out the old robustas - the coffee I enjoy most comes from Guatemala & Costa Rica - rich, dense, mocha-chocolate - what coffee is supposed to taste like. No - wrong - what I think coffee is supposed to taste like. World of difference. Your taste might not coincide with mine (and thank God for that).

Definitely worth giving better water a try. If the water doesn't taste good, it is very hard for the coffee to. Also if there a lot of dissolved minerals, you will not be extracting as much of the coffee flavor when you brew because there is already so much dissolved in the water.

Make sure you equipment is clean to. The old coffee oil stuck on stuff can make for bad coffee.

I bought some Ethiopia coffee, thinking it would be wonderful. It was mediocre, and it dawned on me that our village has very bad drinking water, so, I am thinking that I should buy a gallon of spring water, to see if that helps. If not, I bought a very expensive mediocre coffee.

Shoki, blow it out your ass. As history shows quite nicely, Americans can do pretty much any thing they want.

OMG you suck
so much hassle over a cup of coffe, and than in the end most of you DON'T know how to cook proper coffe?

sorry for this, i love your site, spent my whole work day checking it out. i totally understand if you don't publish this comment, but Americans never stop to amaze me, not necessarily in a good way.
cheers

Making coffee is very easy. We just need to follow certain steps to make a perfect coffee. Firstly, we must take a clean, medium size pot. Then we must put water and milk in it, proportionately. If one person is going to drink the coffee, then one must put one-fourth cup of water and three-fourth cup of milk in the pot. Then add one-fourth of grinded coffee and one teaspoon of sugar. Finally, strain the solution in a strainer. Then stir well and enjoy the coffee.

how about a stovetop espresso maker? add hot milk and you've got the best damn cup of coffee ever - it'll put hair on your chest (if you don't have any already)
